To develop funding bids and project proposals in ‘essential’ patient care areas such as communication, breathing, eating and drinking, elimination, cleanliness and dressing, and mobility.
Well everyone, the good news is that the team have been awarded almost £100k by the UK National Institute for Health Research in a 'Programme Development Grant' to start the ball rolling on this project! We start in earnest on Feb 1st 2016. We are looking for a junior (pre-doctoral) researcher to employ for 18 months. The advert goes live on the University of Exeter website soon. Please encourage any nurses with an MSc in research to apply.
Variously called 'essential', 'fundamental' or 'basic' most people at some time in their lives will require assistance in undertaking personal care activities associated with amongst others, communication, breathing, eating and drinking, elimination, cleanliness and dressing, and mobility. Nurses are often called to provide such assistance. Despite the growth of evidence for highly specific nursing activities, evidence to inform the implementation of these essential care activities is sparse. This project will develop, test, and evaluate promising candidate interventions.
