I qualified as a nurse in 2001.
Prior to nursing I obtained a 2:1 Bachelors Degree in Health Studies, completing a dissertation on the combined oral contraceptive pill and the risk of blood clots. I obtained my Masters Degree (MMedSci in Health Care Studies) in 2003, using a critical analysis of primary research to gain an understanding of how nurses assess patients’ pain when patients are unable to verbalise. I also have the mentorship and leadership qualifications and a Diploma in Tropical Nursing.
I started a PhD in 2014 exploring alcohol use in people who inject drugs and who have hepatitis C. I am currently in the writing up phase of this Phd.
I have had a varied nursing career, including working in theatre recovery, an emergency department, Glastonbury Music Festival, agency work in Australia and in 2011-2012 I worked as Health Supervisor in South Sudan. My role in South Sudan involved clinical skills training for local healthcare staff and compiling weekly disease surveillance reports for the government.
In 2008 I started work as a Pharmacology Research Nurse. I work on numerous research studies and have experience of research governance and ‘setting up’ studies including, obtaining ethics approvals, attending an ethics meeting and obtaining trust approvals.
