How to make people change health behaviour? How technology can help? What is the best way to design interventions and how to involve the user? Some of the questions that bother me. As a nurse with passion for technology, I have the hope that now is the chance for the big changes in the health care system, for the users to get a central role and more power with the help of technology. And the big shift from treatment to prevention will spread all over
I studied nursing at National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Greece and I took my MSc in Health Informatics from the same university. I am now working in Norway, where I took my PhD from UiT-The Arctic University of Norway in Tromsø. My PhD was about trying to help people to help themselves in increasing their physical activity and stay motivated in the phase of cardiac rehabilitation. Our main tool was tailoring, that looks very promising in self-empowerment without requiring the use of additional human resources.
In addition, I am interested and involved in projects in several other areas of eHealth like Heart Failure tele-monitoring, obesity tele-consultation, tele-rehabilitation in general and of course all kinds of tailoring. Another area of particular interest for me is telemedicine and eHealth (including mHealth) for low-resources/developing countries, an area that I got to experience through the function of the Norwegian Centre of Integrated Care and Telemedicine as World Health Organisation Collaborating Centre.
