I am Professor of Health and Nursing Science at Martin-Luther-University Halle-Wittenberg, Germany.
My special interest from the beginning of my research work is geriatric nursing. Interventions for nursing home residents and old aged people cared for in the community are most often of complex nature. I am engaged in the development and evaluation of complex nursing intervention programmes aimed to reduce falls, fall-related injuries and physical restraints as well as in epidemiological research and systematic reviews in the field of dementia care. Our research is funded by German Ministries and the European Commission. I believe that nursing research should always adapt a clinical perspective and necessarily result in efforts for improvement of patients’/residents’ clinical outcomes.
I am member of the Steering Committee of the REFLECTION network. I have written peer reviewed papers published in international journals, non-peer reviewed articles in German and English language, books and book chapters on clinical research results and methods, evidence-based nursing, and evidence-based patient information including some work on careful development, evaluation and reporting of complex interventions.
